Darche Basecamp 2200 vs Harva Outdoors Viken 2.1 Lagom

The Darche Basecamp 2200 and the Harva Outdoors Viken 2.1 Lagom are both softshell tents in the same part of the market, which makes them a genuine head-to-head rather than a comparison across categories. Darche and Harva Outdoors take noticeably different approaches to the same problem.

By the numbers, the Darche Basecamp 2200 brings 87 kg, 5.06 m² of floor and sleeps 4. The Harva Outdoors Viken 2.1 Lagom counters with 66 kg, 3.84 m² of floor, 135 cm of headroom and sleeps 3.

The Viken 2.1 Lagom is 21 kg lighter at 66 kg against 87 kg, which on a factory roof rated for 68 to 75 kg is often the difference between a legal fit and a rack upgrade. Inside, the Basecamp 2200 gives 5.06 m² of sleeping floor against 3.84 m², about 32 percent more, and it sleeps 4 to the Viken 2.1 Lagom's 3. Their list prices are within a few percent of each other, so price is unlikely to decide this one. Darche also backs the Basecamp 2200 for 3 years against 2.

The Basecamp 2200 uses coated Heavy-Duty Compressed Alloy base; the Viken 2.1 Lagom uses 2.5 cm aluminium honeycomb sandwich base (rated to 300 kg) with aluminium and stainless-steel hardware. Canvas differs too: 260gsm Ripstop Polycotton Canvas body; 210D Ripstop Polyester Oxford fly against 420D ripstop polyester oxford tent and roof, UV- and mould-resistant; water columns 6500 mm (tent) / 3500 mm (roof).

Harva Outdoors

Viken 2.1 Lagom

The Viken 2.1 Lagom is the middle of Harva's three Viken softshell sizes, widening the platform to 160 × 240 cm — more room for a couple with a child, at 66 kg and SEK 23,490. It packs to 165 × 125 × 35 cm and, like the rest of the range, folds out to about a 315 cm footprint on a 300 kg honeycomb base with a 7 cm mattress and a 135 cm peak.

  • 160 × 240 cm platform — room for a couple plus a child
  • Middle weight and price of the three Viken sizes
  • Bedding can stay inside when the softshell is folded down
  • 66 kg is a two-person lift onto the roof

Which one to pick

Take the Viken 2.1 Lagom if your roof load limit is the binding constraint. Take the Basecamp 2200 if you need the sleeping room more than you need the lighter tent. Beyond that the feature rows below — heater port, skylight, annex, cargo rails — are where the remaining difference lies.
