Darche Double Dee Hybrid vs Femkes Khosi ABS
The Darche Double Dee Hybrid and the Femkes Khosi ABS are both hybrid tents in the same part of the market, which makes them a genuine head-to-head rather than a comparison across categories. Darche and Femkes take noticeably different approaches to the same problem.
By the numbers, the Darche Double Dee Hybrid brings 96 kg, 2.84 m² of floor and sleeps 2. The Femkes Khosi ABS counters with 55 kg, 3.23 m² of floor, 113 cm of headroom and sleeps 2.
The Khosi ABS is 41 kg lighter at 55 kg against 96 kg, which on a factory roof rated for 68 to 75 kg is often the difference between a legal fit and a rack upgrade. Inside, the Khosi ABS gives 3.23 m² of sleeping floor against 2.84 m², about 14 percent more, though both are rated for 2. Their list prices are within a few percent of each other, so price is unlikely to decide this one.
The Double Dee Hybrid uses ABS / 6-Series Aluminium; the Khosi ABS uses aerodynamic ABS, waterproof. Canvas differs too: 280gsm Ripstop Polycotton Canvas body; 420D Polyester Oxford Ripstop fly (3000mm both) against polyester mix with 200 gr cotton canvas, waterproof and fire retardant; canopy Oxford 210D with silver coating.
Darche
Double Dee Hybrid
The Double Dee Hybrid is an ABS/aluminium hardshell rooftop tent with a canvas body that deploys via an X-hinge, weighing 96kg (102kg with roof rails). It has windows on all sides, a tinted sky window, roughly 100L of internal storage pockets plus a roof storage grid, and a 50mm memory-foam mattress. Roof rails and a 2.3m telescopic ladder are included.
- Published weight (96kg excl. rails / 102kg incl.)
- Roof rails included; large internal storage (~100L)
- 3000mm waterhead on both body and fly
- Heaviest of Darche's published-weight rooftop tents
Femkes
Khosi ABS
The Khosi ABS is Femkes's hybrid tent with an ABS shell that folds out to the side of the car, letting occupants sleep crosswise on a floor of about 215 x 150 cm. It includes a fixed awning plus a detachable 300 x 350 cm awning and a removable roof fly. Femkes lists a closed size of 152 x 122 x 33 cm and an approximate 55 kg weight including ladder and mattress.
- Fold-out design gives a larger sleeping floor than its compact closed footprint
- Detachable 300 x 350 cm awning plus fixed awning included
- Removable roof fly acts as a sky window
- 4 cm mattress is thinner than Femkes's clamshell models
Which one to pick
Take the Khosi ABS if your roof load limit is the binding constraint. Take the Khosi ABS if you need the sleeping room more than you need the lighter tent. Beyond that the feature rows below — heater port, skylight, annex, cargo rails — are where the remaining difference lies.
