Gordigear Tanami Light 140 vs Roof Lodge Evolution 2 (140)

The Gordigear Tanami Light 140 and the Roof Lodge Evolution 2 (140) are both softshell tents in the same part of the market, which makes them a genuine head-to-head rather than a comparison across categories. Gordigear and Roof Lodge take noticeably different approaches to the same problem.

On weight they are effectively level — 52 kg against 55 kg — so the roof load question resolves the same way for both. Floor area is close to identical at 3.46 m² and 3.36 m², so neither wins on sleeping room. The Tanami Light 140 lists $249 lower, at $1,609 against $1,858.

Canvas differs too: 265 gr/m2 ripstop polyester-cotton blend, polyurethane impregnated and UV resistant against 320 g/m2 polycotton (65% polyester / 35% cotton), PU-coated. The Evolution 2 (140) adds a roof skylight and integrated LED lighting, which the Tanami Light 140 does not offer. Closed, the Tanami Light 140 sits 5 cm lower on the roof — 35 cm against 40 cm — which is drag you carry on every mile you are not camping.

Gordigear

Tanami Light 140

The Tanami Light 140 is a 2-person fold-out softshell that sits between the Ultra Light and Plus models in Gordigear's Tanami folding range. It uses an 80 mm compressed-foam mattress, a 265 gr/m2 ripstop polyester-cotton canopy and a 1000D PVC travel cover. Gordigear states it has no LED lighting and no roof window.

  • Thicker 80 mm mattress than the Ultra Light's 60 mm
  • Awning/annex compatible with a heavy 1000D PVC travel cover
  • Four interior storage compartments and an aluminium telescopic ladder included
  • No LED lighting or roof window (manufacturer-stated)

Roof Lodge

Evolution 2 (140)

The Roof Lodge Evolution 2 is a German-made fold-out softshell rooftop tent built on a thermoplastic honeycomb floor with a 320 g/m2 PU-coated polycotton canopy. The 140 cm width sleeps two on a 60 mm foam mattress at a setup height of about 120 cm, and mounts to standard crossbars up to 120 mm wide. It is the narrower of Roof Lodge's two Evolution 2 widths and can be ordered as a Basic tent or as an Extended version with a large ground annex.

  • Designed and assembled in Germany on a rigid thermoplastic honeycomb floor
  • Package includes a 60 mm mattress, 3D-mesh underlay, aluminium ladder, LED lighting and two skylight windows
  • Compatible with an optional ground annex/awning for extended stays
  • Relatively heavy at 55 kg

Which one to pick

These two are closely matched on the numbers that usually decide it. Read the feature rows below — heater port, skylight, annex — and let whichever of those you will actually use break the tie.
