Harva Outdoors Viken 2.1 Lagom vs Horntools Elements Gen II 140

The Harva Outdoors Viken 2.1 Lagom and the Horntools Elements Gen II 140 are both softshell tents in the same part of the market, which makes them a genuine head-to-head rather than a comparison across categories. Harva Outdoors and Horntools take noticeably different approaches to the same problem.

By the numbers, the Harva Outdoors Viken 2.1 Lagom brings 66 kg, 3.84 m² of floor, 135 cm of headroom and sleeps 3. The Horntools Elements Gen II 140 counters with 73 kg, 4.64 m² of floor, 130 cm of headroom and sleeps 2.

The Viken 2.1 Lagom is 7 kg lighter at 66 kg against 73 kg, which on a factory roof rated for 68 to 75 kg is often the difference between a legal fit and a rack upgrade. Inside, the Elements Gen II 140 gives 4.64 m² of sleeping floor against 3.84 m², about 21 percent more, and it sleeps 2 to the Viken 2.1 Lagom's 3. Their list prices are within a few percent of each other, so price is unlikely to decide this one. Horntools also backs the Elements Gen II 140 for 5 years against 2.

Canvas differs too: 420D ripstop polyester oxford tent and roof, UV- and mould-resistant; water columns 6500 mm (tent) / 3500 mm (roof) against 300 g/m2 sailcloth with PU coating; 35% cotton, 65% polyester (water column 2000 mm).

Harva Outdoors

Viken 2.1 Lagom

The Viken 2.1 Lagom is the middle of Harva's three Viken softshell sizes, widening the platform to 160 × 240 cm — more room for a couple with a child, at 66 kg and SEK 23,490. It packs to 165 × 125 × 35 cm and, like the rest of the range, folds out to about a 315 cm footprint on a 300 kg honeycomb base with a 7 cm mattress and a 135 cm peak.

  • 160 × 240 cm platform — room for a couple plus a child
  • Middle weight and price of the three Viken sizes
  • Bedding can stay inside when the softshell is folded down
  • 66 kg is a two-person lift onto the roof

Horntools

Elements Gen II 140

The 140 cm two-person version of Horntools's Elements Gen II folding roof tent, built on an aluminium honeycomb base with a 300 g/m2 sailcloth outer (35% cotton, 65% polyester). It opens in about five minutes to a 320 x 145 cm sleeping area with 130 cm interior height, an 8 cm foam mattress, integrated dimmable LED lighting and a Sky View roof window. It is the smallest of Horntools's three Elements Gen II sizes.

  • Aluminium honeycomb base with 8 cm foam mattress
  • Integrated dimmable LED lighting and Sky View roof window
  • 5-year (voluntary) manufacturer warranty
  • Manufacturer does not publish a season rating

Which one to pick

Take the Elements Gen II 140 if you need the sleeping room more than you need the lighter tent. Take the Viken 2.1 Lagom if your roof load limit is the binding constraint. Beyond that the feature rows below — heater port, skylight, annex, cargo rails — are where the remaining difference lies.
