Thule Widesky vs Wild Land Skyera

The Thule Widesky and the Wild Land Skyera are both hardshell tents in the same part of the market, which makes them a genuine head-to-head rather than a comparison across categories. Thule and Wild Land take noticeably different approaches to the same problem.

The Widesky is 32.5 kg lighter at 67 kg against 99.5 kg, which on a factory roof rated for 68 to 75 kg is often the difference between a legal fit and a rack upgrade. Inside, the Skyera gives 4.7 m² of sleeping floor against 2.95 m², about 59 percent more, and it sleeps 3 to the Widesky's 2. The Widesky lists $999 lower, at $4,000 against $4,999.

They open differently: the Widesky is a clamshell and the Skyera a pop-up. That is not cosmetic — it decides whether headroom is even across the tent or tapers towards one end, and how much of the roof the tent occupies when closed. The Widesky uses aluminum frame with fiber-reinforced polyamide corners and aluminum honeycomb base; the Skyera uses transparent anti-UV polycarbonate (PC). Canvas differs too: 600D recycled polyester ripstop, water resistant against 280g rip-stop polycotton PU2000mm. Closed, the Widesky sits 12 cm lower on the roof — 20 cm against 32 cm — which is drag you carry on every mile you are not camping.

Thule

Widesky

Thule's hardshell flagship, and the only tent here whose mattress converts into a backrest so the interior works as a seating space in daylight. The 20 cm closed profile matches the Roofnest Falcon.

  • Mattress converts to a sofa backrest
  • 20 cm closed profile
  • Two dimmable USB LED lights
  • $4,000 for a two-person tent

Wild Land

Skyera

The Skyera is Wild Land's automatic scissor-lift hardshell, opening and closing at one touch in about 60 seconds via an electric motor with a manual backup. Its shell is anti-UV transparent polycarbonate that gives an overhead sky view, and it sleeps 2-3. It is one of the automatic models in Wild Land's current range.

  • One-touch automatic setup in about 60 seconds
  • Transparent polycarbonate roof for sky viewing
  • Emergency manual lifting mode and alarm system
  • Relatively heavy at 99.5 kg

Which one to pick

Take the Skyera if you need the sleeping room more than you need the lighter tent. Take the Widesky if your roof load limit is the binding constraint. Beyond that the feature rows below — heater port, skylight, annex, cargo rails — are where the remaining difference lies.
